Places of Interest (Ladakh)
Previously part of Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh is now a Union Territory. Ladakh has a large area divided into two districts: Leh and Kargil. It has China to its east and north-east and Pakistan to its north west. Nevertheless, it is a beauty. There are many unique and stunning places of interest in Ladakh.
As you can see in the above map, entire Ladakh is divided into 4 sections for the purpose of tourism: Leh City, Sham Valley, Nubra Valley, Pangong, Hanle and Tso Moriri. All tour and taxi operators offer trips to each of these sections separately or in combination. Each region of Ladakh is unique in its landscapes and the natural scenes it has to offer. It is Ladakh that epitomizes the popular saying that travelling is about the journey and not the destination.
There are a number of tourist places of interest in each of these regions of Ladakh. We have covered each place individually in detail. Although at short distances to each other, the terrain makes it difficult to drive and hence prolonging the journey. The lack of infrastructure and proper roads make travelling exciting as well as exhausting. Hence, it is always advised to halt at a place before embarking on your onward journey. If you are hiring a taxi for your entire trip, you will be taken from one place to the other in a round circuit. Or else, you may always take day trips from Leh and return to Leh by the end of the day. But, in our opinion, stay overnight at each of your halt to experience the best of Ladakh.
