Since it is a huge country, there are numerous places of interest in Vietnam. It is shaped like the letter ‘S’ as you can see in the map below. Each part has a different vibe, weather, culture and food. You can spend as many days as you want staying in this beautiful country. For tourists, Vietnam may be conveniently divided into 3 parts: North, Central and South. The ethnicity, culture and even the taste of same dish changes drastically as you move southwards. The north has more hilly regions, beautiful natural locations and appears more rustic.
Hanoi the capital city is a part of North Vietnam. The Central part has beaches, rivers, old towns, tradition and culture. More popular towns in Central Vietnam are Da Nang, My Son, Hue, Hoi An. Southern Vietnam is more commercial, more developed. Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) is the commercial center of Vietnam which is a part of Southern Vietnam. Da Lat is another popular town of South Vietnam. The differences are a result of being influenced by different indigenous and colonial rulers. Hanoi
Hanoi is the capital city of Vietnam. Earlier, it was Saigon or Ho Chi Minh City as known currently. When the Japanese left from Vietnam, the Saigon emperor captured Hanoi and made it his capital. Later, it formally became the capital of Vietnam when North and South Vietnam merged in 1976. Hanoi has a combination of both tradition and modernity. It has plenty to explore and learn from. Da Nang
Da Nang is the beach city with a long coast line located in the central part of Vietnam. Since it never experiences cold, it is a perfect beach destination. Filled with sky scrapers as well as wellness resorts and a spectacular view offering peninsula, it is a happening place if you know where to go. It appears more magical at night with all the city lights. You may take a flight/train/bus to reach Da Nang from Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh city. We suggest take flights as it does not cost too much. Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon)
Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) is the largest city of Vietnam. Formerly known as Saigon, it used to be the capital of South Vietnam. Being the economic capital, it has plenty of sky scrapers and corporate buildings. You can find HCMC well connected to all parts of Vietnam by road, rail and airways. You can come here directly from Hanoi or as you travel southwards. The South Vietnam is very different to the North and Central due to historical reasons both in culture and food.
