The weather of Kashmir is pleasant throughout the year. Due to its location in the north it is bound by the Himalayas. The summers are very pleasant making Kashmir an ideal summer vacation destination for the rest of India. Following is an analysis of the different seasons in Kashmir and the best time to visit.

Summers

Summers extend from early May to Late August which the peak season to visit Kashmir. Hence, the best season as all the gardens in Srinagar are in full bloom, Gulmarg is lush green and Sonmarg and Pahalgam offer stunning views. The weather is pleasant, clear and gorgeous making it the perfect destination for spending summer vacations. The daytime can become warm and the nights will be cold. So, even if it is summers, make sure to carry light woolen clothes or shawls or just grab something from the local market if you do not wish to carry extra luggage.

Caution: Goes without saying that summers being the peak season, and, tourism being the major contributor to the Economy, the prices of almost everything shoots up during this season. Travel, stay and entertainment become expensive. The sky rocketing prices are an effect of the huge demand and the only mode of income in some places. Rains

Rainfall is not even throughout Kashmir. Different parts of Kashmir experience different amount of rainfall. The weather of Kashmir is quite cool after the summer heat but the rains may spoil the fun. Therefore, this season is the lean season for tourism, which makes it attractive for the budget travellers as they might get excellent deals on stay to travel options. Don’t forget to pack your raincoats or carry an umbrella around.

Winters

Winters are very cold. If you are a snow fanatic, you may visit in early November or late March. Gulmarg is a sight to behold during this time. There are plenty of snow sports to enjoy during that time. You can go sledging, skiing or MTV riding.  If not, then this season may be avoided.

These days due to the increased tourism in the state, no season is properly the lean season as you will find tourists all through the year.
