Summer (April to June)
The temperature in summer months varies between 10°C to 30°C. The weather is pleasantly warm. Awesome for spending the summer vacation. This is the peak tourist season and the best time to travel Ladakh. April is the start of the season as the snow starts melting, the lakes peaking in their beauty. If you are lucky, you may experience snowfall towards the end of April too. We experienced some fresh snow in Taglang La. Temperature is still on the lower side of 15°C in April. From May to July, the place is buzzing with tourists. Hotels and streets packed to the capacity. There is an excellent vibe all around. Ladakh offers scenic pleasure during this time.
Monsoon (July to September)
The temperature during monsoons is moderately low ranging from 3°C to 20°C. Although it does not rain much in this region, monsoons are categorized by short spells of heavy showers and downpours. This causes roadblocks or landslides which may be dangerous to travel. For this reason, it is not advised to travel in these times. The skies remain clear most of the times. It is not very crowded but there are tourists in huge numbers even this time of the year.
Winter (October to March)
The weather of Ladakh is unforgiving in winters with extremely low temperatures. The minimum temperature of Kargil may fall to -50°C. During early October, the weather conditions are not much different from April. But it gets very cold from late October. Everything starts to freeze and the roads are closed due to snowfall or blockage. This is the time for trekkers to experience one of the most coveted frozen treks, the Chadar Trek. There is a frozen Zanskar Trek also which is highly popular among tourists. You will find blankets of white snow covering every piece of land during the winter months.
