Summers
Summers start from March and remain until May. The day temperatures are very high reaching north of 40 °C. It is a dry season with barely any rainfall. The interiors are hotter than the coastal regions. If at all there is any rainfall, it is mostly due to cyclones or depression in Bay of Bengal. It makes the weather pretty humid, adding to the heat.
Monsoon
The South West Monsoons arrive here in June, but, the state receives lesser rainfall during the Monsoon season. The Western Ghats act as a barrier for the south-west monsoon winds and the western Tamil Nadu falls in its shadow region. Average temperature during this time is 25-35 °C. However, majority of the rain that Tamil Nadu receives is during the Retreating Monsoons or the north east monsoon winds i.e. October-December. The Eastern and coastal regions receive more rainfall. Thunderstorms and cyclones are normal during this time.
Winter
The temperature all across Tamil Nadu comes down just after the north east monsoon ends. Winters are very short lasting from December to February. Average temperature ranges between 20-30 °C. The weather is cool and pleasant overall. There is hardly any rain.
