Transportation (Tamil Nadu)
Local transportation in Tamil Nadu is no hassle at all. Railways connects all the cities in Tamil Nadu quite well except for the hill stations. If you are travelling to explore the beaches or temples you may take the trains from one city to another. We have already provided the list of major railway stations in this post.
If you do not have a lot of luggage buses might also be an option as Tamil Nadu has a good network of National and State Highways. The intra state bus connectivity is excellent and the roads are in good condition. Both AC and non AC buses are available between cities. Buses take longer than taxis but if you are looking to save some money then buses are good choice. However, if you have a family or a large group, the cost of tickets may be more than hiring a taxi/traveller. So, decide your mode of transportation in Tamil Nadu based on the above factors.
Alternatively, hiring a taxi as per the size of your group is the best way to explore Tamil Nadu. The roads are in good condition and taxi takes the least amount of time to travel. Additionally, you get the comfort and independence to move as per your will. You may face parking issues in some of the places that may push your parking cost. If you are more than 2 people, taxi becomes convenient as well as the more affordable option. Depending on the type of vehicle you hire, the average cost of hiring a taxi comes down to ₹2,500-₹4,500 per day.
We have travelled to different cities in Tamil Nadu in 3 different trips. The first time we went to Ooty. We had flown to Bengaluru and from there hired a taxi to take us to Ooty. It was our secind trip only way back in 2016. The second time we were on a trip through Kerala when we visited Kanyakumari as it was very near to Kovalam, a coastal city in south of Kerala. But, the actual Tamil Nadu only trip was the third time. It turned out more to be a temple hopping trip. We still have some places left to visit in Tamil Nadu which hopefully we may cover in our next trip. To know how we travelled check out this post
