Suggestions (Thailand)
This post is specifically focused on guiding you through suggestions on your Thailand trip based on our experiences. We hope to make your holidays easier by incorporating the dos and don’ts to follow on your trip. Hopefully, it will help you and assist you in keeping these tips in mind while making your plans.
Travel:
- We suggest to skip Pattaya and go to Phuket/Krabi instead as you would enjoy more at a little added cost.
- Book your flight directly to Phuket and return from Bangkok if you want to include Bangkok also. This would be the best for 7 days itinerary.
- Buy at least one check in luggage to accommodate your luggage after shopping. After all you are going to the shopping paradise.
- Try to include weekend on your trip while in Bangkok to explore Chatuchak market. It is an experience of a lifetime.
Accommodations:
Our suggestions is to avoid staying at the walking streets of Thailand if you are travelling with family. It is a happening place but involves night life primarily. Booking your accommodations near the beach or the market area helps you utilize your time effectively.
- Bangkok: near Pratunam (10 stars Inn, Le Touche) Phaya Thai hostels (Aora Hostel, YooYen Pen Sook)
- Pattaya: Walking street (P72 hotel);
- Phuket: Hotel Sea View Patong (resort)
- Krabi: Hotel Krabi heritage (Ao Nang)
Transportation
- If you read our articles, you will not spend much on travelling. We have covered in detail about transportation in Thailand in this post.
- Take buses to go from one city to another. Although every major city has airports, taking buses will save a lot of money.
- Bus terminals in Thailand are very safe, organized and convenient.
- If you are a couple or group of friends, rent a motorbike for city tours instead of taxi. It will be cheaper and allow you the freedom to visit places at your will and spend as much time at any place as you want.
- Our suggestions with regard to transportation in Thailand is to avoid taxis for local commute. It will be costly and you might get scammed if you do not have proper information.
Food
- Do not worry about food in Thailand even if you are vegetarian. Thailand has a wonderful cuisine.
- Indian food is available everywhere but it is pricey. Local food is much cheaper and tasty also. We have listed some food items that you may try in this post.
- You have many vegetarian options in Thailand.
- You will save a lot of money if you eat local.
- The street food is enough to fill you in the whole day. You do not need to go to a proper restaurant to have a single meal.
- You will not feel hungry at all if you keep trying snacks or fruits being sold by the street.
- It is a paradise for seafood lovers.
- All your day tours will include sumptuous lunch. Do not worry about it! Almost all tours offer breakfast as well as evening snacks. So your food cost reduces while in Phuket and Krabi.
Tours
- Always enquire at least 2-3 operators for the rates before finalizing on one. Bargain hard.
- Decide what tours you want to take based on where you want to go.
- Check online for rates and if you find it cheaper, then book from there.
- Tours almost cost the same from Phuket or Krabi.
- The cost of living in Krabi is less as compared to Phuket by a huge margin. So try to stay more in Krabi and take the tours from there.
- Carry hat and sunscreen for the tours without failure. You may get severely sunburnt on the islands.
- Water and food is provided so you do not need to carry snacks or water unless you have children with you.
- Wear slippers or waterproof sandals.
- You do not need to buy snorkeling equipment or shoes. Equipment is provided by the operator.
- Always ask your guide if you have any doubt about anything while on tour.
Tips:
- Most of the people in Thailand understand English. So, you will be fine. You may use google translation if you need.
- Snatching is a thing in Thailand. Our suggestions include a strict NO to being casual about your belongings. Avoid expensive jewellery and deserted roads at night!
- Buy a SIM if you plan to rent a motorbike for travelling. It costs about ₹1,000.
- Please shop from Bangkok. You will be happy to find absolutely everything here, some things even cheaper than India, specially fashion. You find a mix of Korean, Thai and Chinese products there.
- You might need an extra luggage to carry from Thailand to India!
- Skip the city tour if you do not have much time but do not skip any island tour.
